In an effort to keep tuition affordable, Shining Mountain is committed to exploring numerous fundraising options. Since tuition alone does not cover the costs of operating the school, we have identified several key fundraisers during the year that support the full educational programs offered at Shining Mountain.
Annual Fund
This is Shining Mountain’s premier fundraising drive each year with the goal of closing the gap between tuition revenue and the costs of operation. The money raised is dedicated to the operating budget of the school, which covers such items as teacher salaries, financial aid, and support of programs. Annual giving enables every parent to participate productively in the financial life of the school, by which the school sustains itself. Every gift of every amount helps move us toward 100% participation in each grade.
Shining Mountain has a long history of receiving significant gifts from parents, grandparents and friends that support the vision and future development of our unique Waldorf program and facilities. For the past 20 years donor families have also significantly supported our tuition assistance fund for those families devoted to Waldorf Education who need financial assistance.
Winter Faire
This festival and fundraiser in early December celebrates the season with crafts, music, food, puppet shows, entertainment, and a holiday bazaar of natural crafts made by local artisans. The lower school campus is transformed into the kingdom of King Winter, while the Festival Hall hosts the holiday bazaar, live music, and food.
Auction
The annual auction enlists the support of not only Shining Mountain parents but also the greater Boulder Community, with hundreds of donated items that are available for purchase through both a silent and live auction. Dinner and dancing complete the gala evening, which has become a highly-anticipated and well-deserved evening out for the Shining Mountain extended family.
Capital Campaign
Shining Mountain initiates capital campaigns as appropriate to serve the needs of the future – not just the next several years, but future generations. The present campaign, "Room to Grow," is helping to secure new property and buildings.
Scrip Program
The Scrip Program is an easy way for parents to support the school with no out of pocket cost to them. Local grocery stores and other select retailers support area schools by selling discounted certificates that parents then purchase at face value. Other retailers participate through "escrip" where families register their credit cards and Shining Mountain benefits each time they make their purchases with their credit card or shop on-line.
Shining Mountain Collaborative Business Alliance
The members of the Collaborative Business Alliance are businesses in our community that share in our vision and have pledged to donate a percentage of their proceeds every time they work with SMWS supporters. It is through mutual community support that Shining Mountain will be able to flourish in its mission to provide our unique, high quality Waldorf Education.
